Remind Me When I'm There...
In the thick of the struggle. On the edge of it all turning from what I know to what it will become. Remind me when I'm there. Because I won't remember.
Every good 80's movie has this scene. The one where the character pushes through and fights and overcomes; it's the plot of the whole movie. This is what it was all for. And there's almost always a really great soundtrack backing his late nights, his lonely work, his fight when the rest of the world is coasting by. This is it. It's what every good story is made of. It inspires us to go out and fight for what we believe in.
Yet somehow when we find ourselves in our own fight in life, I don't think it feels exactly the same. Our lonely nights, weeks, months, years, aren't rolled up into a 2 min highlight reel. And there's no audience there cheering us on, rooting for us to save the whole scene.
Or maybe there is.
Maybe we just need to be reminded when we're in the think of it that we're there; that we made it. This is the fight. This is the scene where it gets really, really good.
I know in my own life that at those points I feel scared, tired and alone. Questioning if what I'm fighting for is even worth it. But if we can take anything from a good 80's movie, it's that this is the exact moment where we need put our head down, crank up some really inspiring Rocky themes, and get back in the game.
This is the place where it gets real. This is where you make the difference. This is place where the rubber hits the pavement; where muscles get strengthened as they are tearing; this is where you push through to the other side. Yet this is also the place where so many feel their tired muscles are exhausted, and quit.
There may not be a theatre full of onlookers that paid $8 to see this movie cheering you on. But there most definitely is a world of people around you, watching you, that need you to push through so they can be inspired to push through themselves. Your struggle may be exactly what someone else needs to make it through their own.
So I'm here to tell you that if you're in the thick of it, if you're feeling your muscles being strengthened, if you're exhausted and don't feel like you can go on; Congratulations! You made it! Now put your head down and get back to the grind.
You are on the edge of where everything comes together. Find the guts to push through.
